Is coexistence possible between humans and the brown bear? What are the experiences of ecologists and veterinarians in the region, regarding the protection of this species? What is needed for good management of the brown bear and corresponding reduction of incidents in nature.

About the speakers:

Dime Melovski
Is a wildlife biologist working on large carnivores conservation and management for almost two decades. His focus is on the critically endangered Balkan lynx, but he's also interested in the coexistence between humans and the brown bear. Small part of his professional life involves small mammal research and butterfly conservation.

Slaven Relic
Is a veterinarian in his background but with a PhD combining brown bear ecology and veterinary sciences. He has worked with large carnivores, mostly brown bears, for over 15 years. Except for research on the biology and ecology of brown bears, his work includes implementing monitoring methods, involvement with stakeholders, science-based informing of management and intensive activities within the Brown Bear Intervention Team
