Beyond south winds, Gian Luca Gasca, Italy, 2026, 28'

At the end of the world, where the wind carves the silence, the Fitz Roy rises. A legendary line runs along this mountain: the Casarotto Route on the Goretta Pillar. This is where "Beyond South Winds" comes from, the story of the journey of three men—a mountaineer, a mountain guide, and a photographer—who arrive in Patagonia to discover the austral winter and the legacy of Renato Casarotto.

Matteo Della Bordella, Marco Majori, and Tommy Lamantia tackle a challenge made of patience, renounce and preparation. For Marco, the route is a childhood dream, born from a photograph of his father, taken by Casarotto. The camera follows the unsuccessful attempts, and Tommy's gaze captures gestures, silences, and doubts.

When the wind gives a break, Matteo and Marco step into the heart of winter and, forty-six years after Casarotto's solo ascent, they achieve the first winter ascent of the route. The film depicts mountaineering as a total experience: effort, memory, solitude, and continuity between generations.
