“Climbing until the end of the world”

A personal biography of treks and climbs around the world: starting from the Dolomites in Cortina d’Ampezzo to the high peaks of the Andes in Bolivia, Argentina, Peru and in Chilean Patagonia. Luca finally arrived here in the Balkans and in the peaks of North Macedonia. It is the description of a personal path in which the feelings around nature, wilderness and mountains have been shaping a life story.

Luca Citarella Menardi was born in Cortina d’Ampezzo and grew up in one of the greatest mountain’s scenario of the alpine world. He graduated as an anthropologist and in the middles of the ’80 he began traveling in Latin America where he began working on international cooperation projects for indigenous people and on intercultural issues. He created, with his family, a mountain lodge in Conguillio National park in Chile named “La Baita Conguillio”. He has been trekking and climbing in many different countries of South America, starting from Peru,( Cordillera Blanca), to different Argentinian peaks (Aconcagua) and Chilean peaks (Ojos del Salado, Parinacota, Pomerape and different southern Volcanoes). In Bolivia where he lived 10 years he has been climbing all the 6000 peaks of the country (14 peaks) and many other unexplored mountains . He wrote a book about this experiences, called “Un lugar entre las cumbres” (2012). Finally he arrived in North Macedonia at the end of 2020 and he has been committed with trekking and climbing activities in the Balkans, particularly during winter time through ski touring trips.
